It may be my last World Cup - 'Realistic' Pogba determined to reign in Russia

Paul Pogba wants to help France win the 2018 World Cup as he is "realistic" over the possibility of never playing in the tournament again. The Manchester United midfielder has helped Les Bleus record wins over Australia and Peru in Russia, sending them through to the last 16 with a game to spare in Group C. However, Didier Deschamps' side have yet to dazzle ahead of their clash with second-place Denmark on Tuesday, with Pogba's performances once again coming under intense media scrutiny. However, having missed out on glory on home soil at Euro 2016, where France lost to Portugal in the final, the 25-year-old is less interested in what his critics have to say and is instead focused only on making sure France lift the trophy on July 15. "Maybe it's my last World Cup, we do not know," he told reporters. "I'm really enjoying myself, I'm going to forget the critics, do my talking on the pitch as it's the only answer.  "I give my best for my jersey, my team, for France. I really want to win this World Cup." Asked why it could be his last tournament, considering his age, Pogba replied: "I'm realistic about the fact that it may be my last World Cup. "We do not know what's going to happen tomorrow, maybe I'll be injured or there will be players who will outperform me. "But I hope to do more than one. Some players do not even play one World Cup in their careers."

Skriniar admits to Man Utd approach but intends to stay put

Inter defender Milan Skriniar has confirmed that Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has expressed an interest in signing him this summer. With the Red Devils in the market for several additions during the current transfer window, their gaze has drifted towards San Siro. Mourinho, a former Inter boss, had been hoping that a highly-rated defender on the books in Milan could be lured to Old Trafford and bolster his back line. Skriniar has admitted to an approach being made, with the 23-year-old flattered to have been identified as a target for United. He has, however, spent just one season with Inter and intends to stay put for the foreseeable future. Skinriar told the Slovakian football federation’s official website: “Manchester United? I heard from them and it made me proud. “But I’m even happier that Inter decided to reject it and that they believe so much in me.” Barcelona and Real Madrid have also been credited with holding an interest in Skriniar after seeing him star in Serie A. One season at Sampdoria earned him a €20 million move to Inter in 2017, with his reputation and price tag having risen again over the last 12 months. Skriniar has, however, sought to end the rumours surrounding a potential summer switch on a regular basis. He told Pravda in May: “I don’t know about any particular offer, I have no reason to leave, and I don’t think Inter would sell me anyway. “I also love the fact that we’ll play in the Champions League, I’m looking forward to it.” It appears unlikely that Skriniar will be relaxing that stance, with United and Madrid having to turn their attention elsewhere in the pursuit of a new centre-half.

Man Utd complete £52.5m Fred signing

Manchester United have completed the signing of Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Fred for a fee in the region of £52.5 million ($70m).                The Brazilian has signed a five-year deal which includes a club option for a further 12 months upon its expiry. The 25-year-old, who is United’s second signing of the summer transfer window after Diogo Dalot, was a target of Manchester City until the Premier League champions withdrew their interest in January. The eight-cap Brazil international, who is currently on World Cup 2018 duty, underwent a medical at United’s AON Training Complex less than 24 hours after turning out for the Selecao in their pre-tournament friendly win over Croatia at Anfield. United manager Jose Mourinho told the club's official website of Fred’s capture: “Fred will complement our other midfielders' qualities, which we need; his creative brain and passing vision will give us another dimension to our game. I am very happy he is joining our club and I believe our players know how important he can be in our team.” The midfielder himself added: “This is the biggest club in the world and I am delighted to be a part of this amazing team. To work with Jose Mourinho, who has won so many trophies in his time as a coach, is an opportunity not to be missed. ”I cannot wait to get started and to meet my new team-mates. I would like to thank everyone at Shakhtar Donetsk for everything they have done for me over the past five years. “This is a very exciting time for me with my focus now fully on the World Cup with Brazil.” United’s quest for trophies in 2017-18 was often compromised by their lack of stability in midfield, with Ander Herrera, Marouane Fellaini and Scott McTominay all finding it difficult to pin down a regular starting shirt. And Fred looks set to become Mourinho’s preferred option in midfield once he joins up with the United squad after representing his country at the World Cup in Russia. Fred’s transfer fee makes him the fourth most expensive signing in the history of the Old Trafford club, ranking behind only Angel di Maria, Romelu Lukaku and Paul Pogba in United’s list of big-money buys.

Hazard, Courtois, Fellaini & Alderweireld all on the move? Busy summer predicted for Belgians by Borkelmans

Eden Hazard has been told by former Belgium assistant manager Vital Borkelmans that “now is the moment” to leave Chelsea, while Thibaut Courtois, Marouane Fellaini and Toby Alderweireld are also tipped to be on the move. A difficult 2017-18 campaign for Chelsea and the ongoing uncertainty that has brought in both a playing and coaching capacity has seen plenty of high-profile figures linked with summer moves away from Stamford Bridge. Hazard is chief among them, with the 27-year-old playmaker having been mooted as a Real Madrid target for some time now as he continues to leave the exit door open in west London. Borkelmans believes this could be the summer in which a big-money transfer is done, with the time having arrived for a man considered to be a member of the global elite to prove that he truly belongs in that company. He told bwin: “I think now is the moment that Hazard has to move, which will most likely be to Spain. “He has played a lot of years in the Premier League, but I think it’s time for him to move on.” Hazard could well be joined in Spain next season by current club and international colleague Courtois, with the Chelsea goalkeeper another long-standing target for Madrid. Borkelmans added on the 26-year-old’s future: “If the club are offered good money, then I think he will go. “He likes Chelsea and is happy there, but it could be time for him to make a transfer to another country for a different type of competition.” While Chelsea may be facing a fight to keep two prized assets, they are expected to welcome another Belgian back onto their books in the form of Michy Batshuayi – who impressed on loan at Borussia Dortmund last season before picking up an unfortunate injury. “Batshuayi won’t leave until he finds out what’s going on with the managerial status at Chelsea,” said Borkelmans. “He wants to play first-team football, but if Chelsea find a new manager and Batshuayi fits the role, then he will stay. “He was successful at Dortmund and they will want to keep him, so that’s always an option, but he is a great player, especially in the box, as he always has a knack of finding space.” Of the other Belgians being linked with moves elsewhere this summer, Borkelmans feels the end of the road may have been reached for Fellaini and Alderweireld at Manchester United and Tottenham respectively. He said on reported Arsenal target Fellaini: “He may have to leave to find regular football, he likes to play and wants to get a lot of games, but if he can’t then he may have to move on.” And added on United-linked Alderweireld: “I think Alderweireld will leave this window and he may take the chance to move abroad. [Mousa] Dembele may do the same as well, as every team is looking to have a player like Alderweireld or Dembele. “They’ve played a few years at Tottenham now and for as many good players that Tottenham have brought in, they have also lost some.”
