Lacazette braced for 'difficult' end to Arsenal's top-four bid

Alexandre Lacazette concedes that it is “going to be difficult” for Arsenal to secure a top-four finish in the Premier League. As things stand, with eight games remaining, the Gunners’ fate rests in their own hands. Unai Emery’s side sit fourth in the table at present, two points clear of Manchester United and three ahead of Chelsea. They are also only one behind arch-rivals Tottenham, with their north London neighbours having endured a wobble to suggest that third spot is still up for grabs. Lacazette is looking forward to what promises to be an intriguing run-in but admits that securing a return to the Champions League will not be easy with so many sides still in the hunt. The France international striker told Sport360: “It’s going to be difficult of course, but exciting as well. “It’s been a good battle all season so we just want to win every single game and finish third or fourth. It will be good for us and our fans.” Arsenal are considered to have a favourable finish to their Premier League schedule. Wolves, Watford and Leicester are the only sides currently perched inside the top 10 that they are set to face. They do have the added distraction of a Europa League bid, with Napoli next up at the quarter-final stage of that competition. The Gunners are feeling refreshed, though, after taking in a warm-weather break in Dubai and Lacazette is upbeat ahead of a return to domestic action against Newcastle on Monday. He added: “It was a good idea by the club to bring the players available here to Dubai. It’s been good weather, it was a good pitch, great facilities. Everyone enjoyed it and we worked well for one week. “Now we have to come back to London and stay focused on the Premier League and Europa League.” Once their efforts in 2018-19 come to a close, it has been revealed that Arsenal will be facing Bayern Munich, Roma and Real Madrid in the next International Champions Cup. Those meetings with European heavyweights will be taken in during July, as Emery’s side ready themselves for the next Premier League season.

'Spurs and Man Utd will finish in the top four' - Anderton predicts Champions League race

Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur will have sealed Champions League places come the end of the season, predicts former Spurs and England midfielder Darren Anderton. The race for the top four is tightly contested at the moment with Spurs, Chelsea, Arsenal and United all battling it out.  Despite United being two points off the pace, and Spurs losing three of their last four, Anderton believes that those two sides will occupy third and fourth position ahead of Arsenal and Chelsea. “It’s always all about the run you’re on because results breed confidence. Spurs have definitely had a wobble and lost some games that really they shouldn’t have – the Southampton game, the Burnley game," said Anderton, speaking exclusively to  888Sport . "These are games where if you want to be in the top four or challenge for the title you can’t lose and especially in the manner that they did. "So that was disappointing and then, of course, the immediate reaction is to start looking down and start worrying. It would be quite a negative to not finish in the top four, especially with the new stadium coming next week. “I still fancy Spurs though to join Liverpool and Manchester City. Then I’d go for United.” Although his former team have been through a run of poor form lately, Anderton still believes they are just as good as Premier League leaders Liverpool, with the two sides due to clash in what will be a huge game in the title race on Sunday. He added: "When I look at Liverpool I don’t see them being a better team than Spurs to be honest but they’ve done the business and got the points. They’re the one who is still up there. “It’s a tough one to call. I went to watch the game at Wembley earlier this season and Liverpool were by far the better team, no doubt about it they were different class and Spurs struggled to keep with them. "But are they still at that level? Now, this weekend it could go either way with so much talent on display. There’s a great work ethic across both teams and it will be some battle. I’m looking forward to watching it, that’s for sure.”

'This is the kid who made me leave Arsenal' - Vieira blames Fabregas for Gunners exit

Patrick Vieira blames Cesc Fabregas for forcing him out of Arsenal, according to the Monaco midfielder. Fabregas made his debut for the Gunners in 2003 as a 16-year-old after the club prised him away from Barcelona’s academy. He became the club’s youngest ever goalscorer when he netted at Highbury in a 5-1 League Cup win against Wolves in December of that year, before going on to establish himself as a central figure in Arsenal’s midfield during their Premier League title defence the following season. Club captain Vieira left Highbury after the end of the 2004-05 season, after scoring a penalty to secure victory in the FA Cup final against Manchester United on what turned out to be his last action for the club. He left for Juventus the following month. And now the two have been reunited in Ligue 1, with the former France international having assumed control at Nice and Fabregas playing at Monaco after joining from Chelsea in January. “I saw Patrick Vieira when we played against Nice with Monaco,” Fabregas told Nice-Matin . “It was very funny because I met him in the locker room before the match, he was with the president of Nice and he said to him while looking at me: ‘President, this is the kid who made me leave Arsenal'.” The teams played out a 1-1 draw at Monaco’s Stade Louis II in January, days after Fabregas swapped Stamford Bridge for the Principality on the Mediterranean coast. Monaco have seen a drastic upturn in form since the Spaniard joined them. The 2017 Ligue 1 champions were entrenched in the relegation zone in January, but a run of four wins in seven games – during which the team have been unbeaten – has seen them drag themselves out of the bottom three. That upswing has coincided with the return of title-winning manager Leonardo Jardim, who was sacked in October but re-took the reins in January following the disastrous and short-lived tenure of Fabregas' former Arsenal team-mate Thierry Henry.  Henry was sacked in January having won just two league games during his three-month reign and with the club crashing out of the Champions League after finishing bottom of their group.

Kolo Toure lifts the lid on chopping down Wenger, fights at Arsenal and 'maestro' Rodgers

Kolo Toure has admitted to chopping down Arsene Wenger during an eventful trial at Arsenal and revealed that fights were common within a star-studded Gunners squad. The former Ivory Coast international spent seven years in north London during his playing days. He did, however, come perilously close to ruining his chances of earning a deal. When given the chance to impress Wenger and his coaching staff, Toure flew into challenges on talismanic figures Thierry Henry and Dennis Bergkamp before then sending the Arsenal manager crashing to the turf. He told The Telegraph of the events which saw him land a contract in 2002: "It’s true, absolutely. "Did I think my dream was over? Well, of course, you’re always scared if you tackle the manager of the club. I haven’t done it on purpose but that kind of thing can happen." Toure would go on to take in over 300 appearances for Arsenal, forming part of their Premier League title-winning ‘Invincibles’ side of 2003-04. From the outside, that group appeared to be united and at peace with one another. Toure claims that was not always the case, adding: "Training was really intense - sometimes more so than in matches. "It was really, really challenging. Everybody wanted to win every game and occasionally there would be fights between the players. The team was full of spirit and winners.  "Martin Keown was really competitive but Thierry Henry was similar, he wanted to win every game. He was fuming when he was losing games at training." After leaving Arsenal in 2009, Toure went on to spend time with Manchester City, Liverpool and Celtic before hanging up his boots. He moved into coaching at Parkhead upon retiring and has since followed former Hoops boss Brendan Rodgers to Leicester. Toure is enjoying working alongside the ex-Liverpool and Swansea manager, with the Northern Irishman considered to be one of the very best coaches in the business. "I’m learning from him every day," said Toure. "He’s very intelligent, organised, gives amazing detail to the players. He is the one who organises everything. He is the maestro, it's really good to work with him and see what he does on a daily basis.  "He prepares everything very well and his reading of the game is incredible. He can change the situation in a game so easily. He's a top manager."
