Zanetti calls for Inter focus: We've talked about Icardi too much

Inter vice-president Javier Zanetti said there has been too much talk about Mauro Icardi amid uncertainty over the star's future in Milan. Icardi has not played since he was stripped of the captaincy last month, with the disgruntled striker claiming to have been injured but Inter initially said tests could not uncover a specific issue. Linked with the likes of Real Madrid, Juventus and Napoli amid a contract stand-off, Icardi returned to Inter training on Tuesday. Asked if Icardi could be in line to face Lazio in Serie A action on Sunday, Zanetti said: "I think we have talked about him too much. "Now we must focus on the field because it is fundamental for the season finale." Inter are third in Serie A, two points clear of fourth-placed AC Milan following their derby victory prior to the international break. Zanetti added: "We have the goal of qualifying for the Champions League, 10 games are left and on Sunday we meet a direct rival. The team is preparing for the match as best as possible with the coach." There has been talk of unrest between Icardi and some of his Inter team-mates as speculation grows over his future. Inter centre-back Milan Skriniar, however, told Sport.sk : "You should ask Icardi what happened. "Of course, us players have no problem with him, nor does he with us. It's up to him to put an end to this situation." Games against Juventus, Roma and Napoli are all still on tap for Inter as the club looks to hold onto their position in the table and earn a Champions League place for next season.

'It's up to him' - Skriniar insists Inter team-mates have 'no problem' with Icardi

Inter defender Milan Skriniar says he and his team-mates have "no problem" with Mauro Icardi, adding it is up to the forward to now reintegrate himself with the team.  The Argentinian forward has been in a prolonged standoff with the club and has not featured for Inter since February 9. Icardi was stripped of the captaincy by head coach Luciano Spalletti last month and has not played since, with a contract row between Icardi, his agent and wife Wanda Nara, and the club reportedly behind the extended stand-off. The official reasoning behind Icardi's absence was a knee injury, though, with the director of Inter's medical department, Piero Volpi, stating that the striker could be back in action soon.  Icardi recently rejoined the team for training, marking the first time since February that he worked alongside his team-mates. And one of those team-mates, Skriniar, said he has no problem with the forward and vice-versa. “You should ask Icardi what happened,” the Inter defender told Sport.sk. “Of course, us players have no problem with him, nor does he with us. It’s up to him to put an end to this situation.” The defender's stance is similar to that of Lautaro Martinez, Icardi's replacement during his exile. In the middle of Icardi's absence, Martinez said it was up to his fellow Argentine to resolve his issue and that he could return to the group as an "important" piece. Martinez, meanwhile, established himself as a key presence for Inter during Icardi's absence, with Andrea Pirlo saying that he believes that Inter are better off with him over Icardi. The 21-year-old Martinez has scored six Serie A goals this season in his first campaign with the club, while Icardi netted nine times in 20 league matches prior to his exile. Up next for Inter is Sunday's match with Lazio as the team returns from the international break sitting third in Serie A.

Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur, Juventus and Inter Milan to feature in ICC 2019

European giants Manchester United, Juventus, Inter Milan and Tottenham Hotspur are all set to feature in the third edition of the International Champions Cup (ICC) in Singapore this summer. A new format of the ICC will see just two matches taking place over a weekend on July 20th and July 21st. In the first match, Manchester United will take on Inter Milan. On the following day, Juventus play Tottenham Hotspur. Speaking about the event, Executive Chairman of Relevent Sports Group Charlie Stillitano said, “We are very pleased to bring the International Champions Cup to Singapore again. The event is the only platform for fans in the region to get up close to their favourite teams. Manchester United, Inter, Juventus and Tottenham Hotspur are clubs with strong support in the region, and we believe the fans will be happy to see them in action.”    The International Champions Cup Singapore has roped in AIA as their first ever presenting partner. Incidentally AIA is also the global principal partner of Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur. AIA Group Chief Executive and President, Ng Keng Hooi said, “AIA is proud to be the Presenting Partner of the 2019 International Champions Cup Singapore, especially during our Centennial year. It is a wonderful opportunity for our customers, agents, partners and staff to witness Tottenham Hotspur, with their many international stars, compete in Asia.” Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United had earlier visited Singapore in 1995 and 2001 respectively. They will play at the new National Stadium of Singapore. While the English giants will play their first match at the National Stadium, both the Italian clubs had played at the venue back in 2014 and 2017. Juventus had played against Singapore Select in 2014 and Inter Milan had won the 2017 International Champions Cup beating Bayern Munich and Chelsea respectively.

'Inter play better with Lautaro' - Pirlo unsure of Icardi return from long absence

Andrea Pirlo claims Inter play better with Lautaro Martinez in the side, while suggesting Mauro Icardi's position at San Siro has been weakened by his continued absence. Icardi has not played for the Nerazzurri since he was stripped of the captaincy in February amid a contract wrangle between the club and his wife and agent Wanda Nara. But Martinez has seized the opportunity to establish himself as a key man in place of his compatriot, starting Inter's last five Serie A matches and taking his goals tally to six for the league season. And Pirlo, who played for Inter before enjoying a storied career with AC Milan and Juventus, does not believe Icardi is helping his situation by remaining unavailable for selection. "Inter keep playing and those who do not play are losing value," Pirlo told La Gazzetta dello Sport. "Inter have another attacker.  "How will Icardi return after being out for so long? "Lautaro is more complete and makes the team play better, whereas Icardi is more of a goalscorer. But they can play together." Pirlo added that Nara had also negatively impacted Icardi's standing in Milan by allowing the saga to play out in public. "The representatives go to the office, they talk, they solve things in there," he said. "There would have been less mess if everything had been less public, less on social media." Icardi has scored just nine goals in Serie A this term, having netted 29 in the 2017-18 campaign.
