'What he can become is exciting' - Alexander-Arnold's potential hailed by Johnson

The sky is the limit for Trent Alexander-Arnold according to Glen Johnson after describing the Liverpool defender’s potential as 'exciting'. Aged just 20, Alexander-Arnold has already appeared 74 times for Liverpool and been to a World Cup with England but Johnson expects this to be just the beginning for the right-back. The youngster is already one of the first names on the teamsheet at Anfield and Johnson is excited at the prospect of Alexander-Arnold becoming even better than he already is. “He’s got bundles of potential to improve. He’s only 20 years old so he’s far from the finished article and what he can become from the position he’s in now is exciting," Johnson told Liverpool's official website. “[The full-backs] are two key players for the way they play at the moment so fingers crossed they stay fit and healthy and keep performing the way they are.” Alexander-Arnold will be hoping that Liverpool can lift their first league title in almost 30 years this season. The Merseyside club currently top the Premier League but, with Manchester City breathing down their necks, the title is anything but secured. Liverpool host Tottenham at the weekend in a game that could go a long way towards deciding the title race, and Johnson is hoping Liverpool can hold onto top spot by continuing to pick up positive results. Johnson was a part of the 2013-14 Liverpool side that came within touching distance of breaking the Reds' title drought and he is hoping that this crop of players will be able to get across the line. “We were good enough to win that league as well that season but unfortunately we fell a step short. Hopefully, these guys can dig in and take that one step further,” he said. “I think both teams will drop points. City have got the squad to cope with a heavy schedule but I think Liverpool need to just focus on themselves the way they have been and, fingers crossed, City will drop more points than them. “It’s much easier to watch when they’re playing well and winning most weeks. It’s been enjoyable and, fingers crossed, they can get over the line.”

'When you need him, he always comes to the party' - Thompson backs Salah to turn around Liverpool form

Mohamed Salah will rediscover his best form for Liverpool heading into the business end of the 2018-19 campaign, according to Phil Thompson. The 26-year-old attacker is in the middle of a seven-game goal drought at club level, drawing criticism from a number of experts for his performances and loss of focus in the final third. Salah is still one of the leading scorers in the Premier League this term on 17, which is only one behind Manchester City's Sergio Aguero - who tops the current standings in the race for the Golden Boot. However, the Egypt international now looks destined to fall a long way short of his final tally from last season , when he broke the domestic record for goals scored in a 38-game season with 32. Salah notched 44 goals in total across all competitions as the Reds finished fourth in the league and reached the Champions League final, but he hasn't had quite the same impact in his second year at Anfield. Despite his recent troubles, Liverpool are still in the hunt for their first title in 29 years and they have a European Cup quarterfinal to look forward to in April. Thompson, who played for the club during a trophy-laden period between the 1970s & '80s, feels that Salah will still have a huge role to play in the next two months and that he tends to rise occasion when it matters most. "You can see Mane in front of goal whereas Mo is finding it very difficult to find one," Thompson told Sky Sports . "Everyone is willing Mo to score goals, but Sadio is so full of energy and confidence and when he gets anywhere near the goal, you do expect him to score. "He is on fire but you feel with Mo that, when you need him, he always comes to the party and you feel like you are just getting ready to see him on fire before the end of the season. "You do have to have concerns that Mo hasn't scored for a bit, but you look at the number of times he keeps getting into the positions. With Liverpool, if Mane dries up, Mo will come to the table and so will Firmino." Next up for Jurgen Klopp's side is a huge home fixture against Tottenham on Sunday , as they aim to hold onto their position at the Premier League summit. Liverpool are top by two points ahead of Man City having played a game more, with their rivals set to face Fulham away on Saturday. Thompson expects Spurs to pose the Reds a difficult challenge, given their strong English core. "I'm expecting a massive game," he added. "They have big players and the nucleus of this wonderful England side is based around Tottenham players so Liverpool are going to have to be at their best on Sunday."

'I think it can be a real fortress' - Sheringham says new stadium can take Tottenham to another level

Tottenham's luxury new stadium can become a fortress for Mauricio Pochettino's side, according to Teddy Sheringham. Spurs will play their first match at their newly unveiled 62,000 capacity home against Crystal Palace in the Premier League on April 3. The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium has already been trialled by the club's U-18 side, who beat Southampton 3-1 on Sunday, with a second test event due to be held this weekend. A Spurs legends team will assemble to take on an Inter Milan XI at the ground on Saturday before it officially opens for the club's senior squad. The stadium was due to be finished last September, but Pochettino's men have been forced to continue playing their home games at Wembley over the course of the 2018-19 campaign. Sheringham, who enjoys hero status among Spurs supporters after two spells at the club as a player, believes that moving into the stunning new facility at this stage of the season will ultimately benefit the current squad next term.  "In the long run, when it's our home, I think it can be a real fortress," he told Sky Sports. "And if the quicker we get accustomed to that, the better, for the players. "That's why I think it's good for them to be playing at the end of this season so that you can feel like you're going into a new season next year, really understanding what the new stadium is like and what it's all about. "So, you have to get your bearings and your surroundings on a football pitch, and the quicker you get accustomed to it, the better." Tottenham are currently embroiled in a battle for a place in the Premier League's top four, occupying third place after 30 matches. The Lilywhites has been contenders in the title race for much of the season, but a dip in form before the international break saw them slip too far behind Manchester City and Liverpool. Pochettino has had to deal with persistent rumours linking him with a move away from the club, but Sheringham is adamant the Argentine will oversee the club's first full season in their new stadium come August. The former England forward has backed Pochettino to take the team to a new level at the venue, as he added: "For me, why would he want to be leaving Tottenham? The club is on the up, it's a fantastic club to be involved with, I think all the supporters love him. "There's not like a 60-40 split or anything like that other people want him to leave, everybody can see that the club is on the up, the football team is on the up. "They're just moving into a new stadium, he's working with some of the best players, not only in the country but in the world, if I had to bet, I would say he's gonna be staying and looking forward to next season."

Adekanye set to leave Liverpool as Lazio and Barcelona show interest

Liverpool youngster Bobby Adekanye has revealed that he will not be signing a new contract and claims Barcelona and Lazio are both interested in his services. Adekanye has become disgruntled with life at Anfield after not being given a chance to shine in the first team as well as being left at home as the team went on a pre-season tour of the USA. The Dutchman made his debut for Netherlands U20s against Mexico last week and has made nine appearances for Liverpool's U23s in the Premier League 2 this term but has not played since November. "I expected that I would get a chance at Liverpool sooner. Before I came, we talked about it. They said that if I had a good first season, I had a good chance of joining the first team," he told Voetbalzone.nl. "Due to injury, that did not come true. I had to undergo surgery at the start of my second season and then it is difficult to return.” Adekanye plays in one of the most competitive positions at Liverpool, with Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah being two of the first names on the teamsheet every week and the starting XI looks a long way off for the youngster. He added: "Jurgen Klopp spoke to me and gave me tips. He said 'keep doing your thing'. But, in the end, I don't think I appeared in his plans. If so, I have to look for something else. That is disappointing and it has helped me decide not to renew my contract." Despite his lack of minutes, there has been no lack of interest in the 20-year-old with reports in Italy claiming he has been offered a deal by Lazio, as well as Barcelona reportedly looking to bring him back to the club. "That I would sign with Lazio is not at all the case," he said. "It's not over yet. They are one of the clubs that is interested, but it is not yet 100 per cent decided. "I also heard from Barcelona. In the Netherlands, Willem II came by. I can't name the entire list of clubs now, because then we will be busy tomorrow. But there is interest from, among others, the Netherlands, Italy and Spain. "In the summer I am going to talk about it with my family and business manager Junior Minguella, I am not worried that I will have no club."
