'The job I always dreamed of' - Solskjaer vows to deliver success to Man Utd fans after landing permanent role

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has vowed to deliver success after being named as Manchester United manager on a permanent basis. The Norwegian has presided over 14 wins from his 19 games in charge so far, including a memorable Champions League comeback against Paris Saint-Germain. And the former Molde head coach, who replaced Jose Mourinho following his 3-1 defeat at Anfield on Boxing Day, admitted how thrilled he was to have landed the job of his dreams. Having already enjoyed success with the Red Devils in his playing days, Solskjaer will now hope to grasp the opportunity to win silverware with the club as a manager with both hands. "From the first day I arrived, I felt at home at this special club. It was an honour to be a Manchester United player, and then to start my coaching career here," Solskjaer said.  "The last few months have been a fantastic experience and I want to thank all of the coaches, players and staff for the work we’ve done so far. This is the job that I always dreamed of doing and I’m beyond excited to have the chance to lead the club long-term and hopefully deliver the continued success that our amazing fans deserve."   More to follow...

Ole's at the wheel! Man Utd hand Solskjaer three-year contract

Manchester United have confirmed the appointment of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as their next permanent manager on a three-year contract. A Treble-winning hero of the club’s past was returned to Old Trafford in December on an initial interim agreement. With Jose Mourinho having been ushered through the exits, the Red Devils turned to a familiar face for inspiration. Solskjaer delivered an immediate reversal in fortune, overseeing 14 wins from his 19 games at the helm. That run has included notable victories over Arsenal and Tottenham, along with a stunning Champions League triumph over Paris Saint-Germain. A 3-1 win at Parc des Princes saw United overturn a first leg deficit in a heavyweight Champions League contest to book their place in the quarter-finals. Lionel Messi and Barcelona are next up for Solskjaer and his side, but that challenge should no fear for a rejuvenated outfit. A feel-good factor has been returned to the Theatre of Dreams, with a top-four finish also on the cards this season. United’s executive vice-chairman, Ed Woodward, believes Solskjaer is the man to help the club deliver on expectation in the present and future. “Since coming in as caretaker manager in December, the results Ole has delivered speak for themselves,” he told United’s official website. “More than just performances and results, Ole brings a wealth of experience, both as a player and as a coach, coupled with a desire to give young players their chance and a deep understanding of the culture of the club. This all means that he is the right person to take Manchester United forward. “I want to thank Ole and the coaching team for everything they have done so far and congratulate him on this richly deserved appointment. “The fans and everyone at the club are behind him as he looks to take us where we need to be and build the next stage of our history.” Solskjaer has admitted that being in charge of United is a job he has “always dreamed of doing”. He now has three years in which to help bring the good times back to Old Trafford. His appointment on a full-time deal had been mooted for some time, so impressive has he been since taking the reins, and an end to the uncertainty surrounding both his and the collective future in Manchester means that focus can now be narrowed on the pursuit of ambitious targets.

'Man Utd can upset Messi & Barcelona' - Forlan fancies Red Devils' chances

Former Manchester United striker Diego Forlan believes the Red Devils can upstage Lionel Messi's Barcelona in the Champions League. United will face Barca in the quarter-finals next month following their dramatic comeback against Paris Saint-Germain in the round of 16. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side are fifth in the Premier League but have enjoyed a resurgence under their former forward, while Barca are on track for successive La Liga titles. Forlan – who won the Premier League and FA Cup during his two years at Old Trafford – fancies United's chances against the Spanish giants. "Well they have a different game against Barcelona," Forlan said. "But they are a really good team and in football you never know what's going to happen. "They have a really good game in front, a difficult one. But they have a great team with good players. "United do really well at home, they could have a good possibility for elimination [of Barcelona]." Before the first leg at Old Trafford on April 10, United will face Watford and Wolves in the Premier League. After consecutive losses in the league and FA Cup, United return to action at home to Watford on Saturday while Barca – 10 points clear atop the table – welcome Catalan rivals Espanyol to Camp Nou.

Pochettino looks like a Man United manager and isn't going to go away - Neville

Mauricio Pochettino “looks like a Manchester United manager”, says Phil Neville, with the Tottenham head coach expected to remain in the picture even if Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is handed a permanent contract. A man currently in interim charge of the Red Devils is being tipped to be given the chance to stay on at Old Trafford past the end of the season. No decision has been made as yet, though, and links to the likes of Pochettino remain. Neville expects such speculation to continue, with a highly-rated Argentine an option that will remain in contention for as long as United favour other options. The former Red Devils defender told Premier League Today: “Three months ago Poch was the number one candidate. That’s changed now. I think Ole has overtaken Pochettino.  “I actually think if United drop off from now until the end of the season, Pochettino will be the number one candidate.  “If Solskjaer gets the job and United lose the first 10 games of next season, Pochettino will be the number one [to replace him].  “He looks like a Man United manager to me in terms of his whole philosophy.  “Pochettino over the next five years, I don’t think, will actually go away from the speculation of Man United.  “But Solskjaer has now raced ahead of the pack and is the number one candidate.” While Pochettino would bring a proven track record in the Premier League to Old Trafford if approached this summer, Neville concedes that Solskjaer has earned enough goodwill through 19 games at the helm to make him deserving of a full-time contract. The ex-England international added: “They have to give him the job. At this moment in time, it’s impossible not to give him the job.  “If you look at the fans, if they don’t give Solskjaer the job, I do think the fans will be really unhappy.” Solskjaer has forced United back into contention for a top-four finish in the Premier League and through to the quarter-finals of the Champions League, where they will face Barcelona. His side are set to return to action after the international break on Saturday with a home date against Watford.

Former Man Utd boss Moyes keen on Celtic & Scotland jobs

Former Manchester United boss David Moyes admits he would be interested in managerial posts with Celtic and Scotland if they became available. The 55-year-old has been without a coaching role since leaving West Ham in the summer of 2018. His reputation was enhanced during a spell at the London Stadium, having previously endured a difficult time at United, Real Sociedad and Sunderland. Moyes is eager to return to the dugout and is actively scouring the market for potential positions. A club job would be his preference but, with questions being asked of Alex McLeish, an international option could appeal. Moyes told BBC Sport: "Club football would be my choice, but Scotland's my country and I'm really passionate. "I've followed Scotland to all the tournaments when I was a young man, I used to go to Wembley regularly with my dad, so I've got some great memories of being a Scotland supporter. "The Scotland job is difficult for anybody because there's great expectation. "I don't think there's any one way we can fix it. I don't have all the answers, but I've got some ideas and thoughts. "There are many things we're not doing in Scotland, we've chosen to bring in lots of foreign players, and cheap foreign players, and maybe a lot of the young Scottish players are not getting the opportunities. "We need to see if we can find a solution to develop more players, but we're not going to do it in two or four years, it's a 10 or 15-year plan." While Moyes could be charged with the task of delivering an upturn in fortune for Scotland, there are high-profile domestic posts that could soon be available. The reins at Celtic may be up for grabs this summer, with Neil Lennon back at Parkhead on an interim basis. The Hoops turned to a familiar face in the wake of Brendan Rodgers’ decision to head for Leicester, and Moyes admits he would be interested if another change is to be made in Glasgow. He added: "I would always be interested, but Lenny's done a brilliant job. "He's been there before and the job he's doing at the moment would warrant being the Celtic manager. He's doing a good job." Lennon has gone unbeaten through his first four games back at Celtic, with three victories claimed from those outings. He has maintained a 10-point lead at the top of the Scottish Premiership table, heading into an Old Firm clash with Rangers on Sunday, while also booking a spot in the Scottish Cup semi-finals.
