Zanetti calls for Inter focus: We've talked about Icardi too much

Inter vice-president Javier Zanetti said there has been too much talk about Mauro Icardi amid uncertainty over the star's future in Milan. Icardi has not played since he was stripped of the captaincy last month, with the disgruntled striker claiming to have been injured but Inter initially said tests could not uncover a specific issue. Linked with the likes of Real Madrid, Juventus and Napoli amid a contract stand-off, Icardi returned to Inter training on Tuesday. Asked if Icardi could be in line to face Lazio in Serie A action on Sunday, Zanetti said: "I think we have talked about him too much. "Now we must focus on the field because it is fundamental for the season finale." Inter are third in Serie A, two points clear of fourth-placed AC Milan following their derby victory prior to the international break. Zanetti added: "We have the goal of qualifying for the Champions League, 10 games are left and on Sunday we meet a direct rival. The team is preparing for the match as best as possible with the coach." There has been talk of unrest between Icardi and some of his Inter team-mates as speculation grows over his future. Inter centre-back Milan Skriniar, however, told Sport.sk : "You should ask Icardi what happened. "Of course, us players have no problem with him, nor does he with us. It's up to him to put an end to this situation." Games against Juventus, Roma and Napoli are all still on tap for Inter as the club looks to hold onto their position in the table and earn a Champions League place for next season.

'It's up to him' - Skriniar insists Inter team-mates have 'no problem' with Icardi

Inter defender Milan Skriniar says he and his team-mates have "no problem" with Mauro Icardi, adding it is up to the forward to now reintegrate himself with the team.  The Argentinian forward has been in a prolonged standoff with the club and has not featured for Inter since February 9. Icardi was stripped of the captaincy by head coach Luciano Spalletti last month and has not played since, with a contract row between Icardi, his agent and wife Wanda Nara, and the club reportedly behind the extended stand-off. The official reasoning behind Icardi's absence was a knee injury, though, with the director of Inter's medical department, Piero Volpi, stating that the striker could be back in action soon.  Icardi recently rejoined the team for training, marking the first time since February that he worked alongside his team-mates. And one of those team-mates, Skriniar, said he has no problem with the forward and vice-versa. “You should ask Icardi what happened,” the Inter defender told Sport.sk. “Of course, us players have no problem with him, nor does he with us. It’s up to him to put an end to this situation.” The defender's stance is similar to that of Lautaro Martinez, Icardi's replacement during his exile. In the middle of Icardi's absence, Martinez said it was up to his fellow Argentine to resolve his issue and that he could return to the group as an "important" piece. Martinez, meanwhile, established himself as a key presence for Inter during Icardi's absence, with Andrea Pirlo saying that he believes that Inter are better off with him over Icardi. The 21-year-old Martinez has scored six Serie A goals this season in his first campaign with the club, while Icardi netted nine times in 20 league matches prior to his exile. Up next for Inter is Sunday's match with Lazio as the team returns from the international break sitting third in Serie A.

Adekanye set to leave Liverpool as Lazio and Barcelona show interest

Liverpool youngster Bobby Adekanye has revealed that he will not be signing a new contract and claims Barcelona and Lazio are both interested in his services. Adekanye has become disgruntled with life at Anfield after not being given a chance to shine in the first team as well as being left at home as the team went on a pre-season tour of the USA. The Dutchman made his debut for Netherlands U20s against Mexico last week and has made nine appearances for Liverpool's U23s in the Premier League 2 this term but has not played since November. "I expected that I would get a chance at Liverpool sooner. Before I came, we talked about it. They said that if I had a good first season, I had a good chance of joining the first team," he told Voetbalzone.nl. "Due to injury, that did not come true. I had to undergo surgery at the start of my second season and then it is difficult to return.” Adekanye plays in one of the most competitive positions at Liverpool, with Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah being two of the first names on the teamsheet every week and the starting XI looks a long way off for the youngster. He added: "Jurgen Klopp spoke to me and gave me tips. He said 'keep doing your thing'. But, in the end, I don't think I appeared in his plans. If so, I have to look for something else. That is disappointing and it has helped me decide not to renew my contract." Despite his lack of minutes, there has been no lack of interest in the 20-year-old with reports in Italy claiming he has been offered a deal by Lazio, as well as Barcelona reportedly looking to bring him back to the club. "That I would sign with Lazio is not at all the case," he said. "It's not over yet. They are one of the clubs that is interested, but it is not yet 100 per cent decided. "I also heard from Barcelona. In the Netherlands, Willem II came by. I can't name the entire list of clubs now, because then we will be busy tomorrow. But there is interest from, among others, the Netherlands, Italy and Spain. "In the summer I am going to talk about it with my family and business manager Junior Minguella, I am not worried that I will have no club."

Ronaldo undergoes tests in Portugal after suffering injury against Serbia

Cristiano Ronaldo has undergone tests in Portugal after suffering an injury in Monday's Euro 2020 qualifier against Serbia. The forward was forced out in the 30th minute of Monday's match after pulling up with an apparent leg injury. Portugal went on to draw the tie 1-1 with Danilo Pereira cancelling out Dusan Tadic's opening finish from the penalty spot.  Following the match, the forward insisted that he was not worried about the injury and that he would be back in "one or two weeks with no problem" . And his assessment has proven to be correct as the tests in Portugal revealed that Ronaldo suffered a "minor injury". However, he is also set to undergo tests in Italy when he returns to Juventus to conclude the international break. "After being forced to go out at the 30th minute of the first half of the match between Portugal and Serbia, valid for the Euro 2020 qualifications, Cristiano Ronaldo was subjected in Portugal to investigations that showed an apparent minor injury to the right thigh flexors," Juventus said in a statement. "His conditions will be monitored and will be subjected to new investigations to define the resumption of competitive activity." Juventus will certainly be hoping Ronaldo is cleared to return before April 10, when they will face off with Ajax in the Champions League quarter-finals. The two clubs will collide in Amsterdam on April 10 before facing off in the second leg six days after that. Prior to that, though, Juventus will have to focus on Saturday's Serie A return against Empoli before facing off with Cagliari three days later. The focus will then turn towards AC Milan on April 6 ahead of the trip to the Netherlands for the Champions League quarter-final first leg. Ronaldo has scored 19 goals in 26 league appearances since joining the club from Real Madrid this past summer.

Messi 'more technically gifted' than Ronaldo and gets the nod from Barcelona icon Romario

Lionel Messi is “more technically gifted” than Cristiano Ronaldo, says Romario, but a Portuguese superstar is also “among the five best players in history”. Iconic figures now on the books of Barcelona and Juventus have spent more than a decade battling for top spot in the global pecking order. They have shared 10 Ballons d’Or between them, broken numerous records and collected countless individual and collective honours. Debate still rages, though, as to who can consider themselves to be the best. Personal opinion and allegiance shape the thinking of many, with it no surprise to see that World Cup winner Romario is a member of the Messi fan club. As a man with strong ties to Camp Nou, the former Barcelona striker was always going to side with a mercurial Argentine in Catalunya. The ex-Brazil international is an admirer of Ronaldo, but he considers the Portuguese’s eternal rival to shade things when it comes to natural ability and entertainment factor. Romario told Fox Sports Brasil: “I love Messi, he's great, but it must also be said Cristiano Ronaldo is among the five best players in history. “If I had to choose one to play with, I would stay with Messi. “He's more technically gifted, I'd rather see Leo than Cristiano.” Messi is among those to have followed in the footsteps of the legendary Barcelona sides that Romario formed part of under the guidance of Johan Cruyff. The club have always boasted strong ties to talented performers from South America and appear set to benefit from those skill sets in the years to come. Romario is, however, able to acknowledge the ability of others and is not surprised to have seen Ronaldo take up a standing alongside Messi in the modern day and all-time pecking order. He added on the 34-year-old former Manchester United and Real Madrid forward: “He's a very focused guy with undeniable talent. “It's necessary to celebrate him, he works to be the best. I think his evolution is a direct result of that work.” Ronaldo, who suffered an untimely knock on his most recent outing for Portugal, has netted 24 times in 36 appearances for Juventus this season. Messi, meanwhile, has found the target on 39 occasions across 37 games for Barcelona – although he too picked up an injury during the international break after returning to the Argentina fold for the first time since the 2018 World Cup.
